Annie Get Your Gun

I love Steven, as you can probably guess. One thing I learned about him more after we got married is that he loves musicals! How wonderful is that? I know there are men who are so afraid of their "manhood" that they won't touch one with a ten foot pole. I guess that is just another reason why Steven is great! He isn't afraid to admit that there are great musicals. In the beginning of the seven week break, I bought my books for my classes. While I was searching I so happened to come across a DVD. This DVD has four musicals. Two of which I had heard of, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Annie Get Your Gun.

The latter one was one we decided to watch this past weekend with Steven's family while the boys were at priesthood session for General Conference. I fell in love with it again! There is something about Betty Hutton, also known as the Blond Bombshell in Hollywood, that makes me laugh. And to think this movie was made in the 50s. She is so spunky, yet she can be so elegant. She seems like she had such a great attitude towards life, which might have something to do with her comedian acts.
 


Many of you may know the song from Gatorade commercials that originally came from Annie Get Your Gun musical number Anything You Can Do.

Anyhow, although we have watched it twice in the past 5 days, I still love this movie and Betty Hutton. Pure talent!

Be Grateful

So, a while back President Hinckley, a fairly recently deceased prophet for those of you who are not familiar my religion, came out with a beautiful talk in 2000 about the Six B's. I find these so important in my life. Right now, I feel so inclined to express how grateful I am.
First, I would like to start of by letting my parents know how grateful I am for them and their counsel. Although, I was a brat in high school, I would like to let them know how grateful I am that they didn't give up on me. I am grateful for my dad and his long hours at work to provide food and clothing and shelter for me. I am grateful for my mom and the sacrifices she mad, like forgoing her master's degree to care for our family, and even more for the daily sacrifices she made for me--making dinner, driving me to seminary, making sure I was happy, bringing money or something when I forgot it. Although, I took  it for granted, I am looking forward to the challenge of being as good of a mom as mine.

Secondly, I am grateful for my husband for loving the chaotic mess I am. He is so wonderful, and I am grateful that Heavenly Father intertwined our paths. He is studying so hard for the DAT right now. How anybody can sit at a desk for 8+ hours a day and study O-chem and those ridiculous math problems, I will never understand but will be forever grateful for his willingness to sacrifice now, so he can better provide later.

Next, I am grateful for my in-laws and the wonderful opportunities they provide for Steven and I, and even more importantly the example they set for us when we become parents. They are so gracious, and I will forever look up to them for that. I am most inevitably grateful for the son that they raised and allowed me to marry.

I am grateful for all the friends that helped me through life. Heidi, Jacque, and Eve especially. Today, I am particularly reminiscing over the many things Eve did for me in high school that I didn't even really acknowledge. They meant so much to me, like the CD and even the star container with the quotes and ideas. I still have it on my bookshelf up here. I am grateful for Jacque and her light-hearted fun. She could always get my mind off of things. I am grateful for Heidi, and her outlook on life and for the times that she helped me. There were many-a-times that she was a sister to me. There were so many other friends that I can't list them all. Some other high school friends are Ashley--who helped me get through Mr. Clardy, Bryanna--who helped me after Ashley (and even before), Itohan--who always seemed to listen at the right times and maybe smack me back into reality, anywho... it's starting to sound like I'm dying. So, I'm going to stop.

For anybody and everybody I have crossed paths with, no matter how short, I am grateful for you today because I guarantee that I learned something from you and/or still do.

Huckleberry Picking #2

From the previous post, readers of this blog will know that we went huckleberry picking at the end of July without much success, but we did have much success at picture taking. We tried again at the end of August. We had success at last! We had to hike up a pretty steep mountain to get to the unpicked delicious berries, but it was worth it. I have never had a huckleberry before, neither had Steven. They are quite scrumptious. Not so to where I would pay $10 for a small container, but enough so I would spend 1 1/2 hours having fun with my husband and friends. We were all getting our pants soaked, and it was freezing up in the mountains. It's normally not like that, but we didn't think that the mountains would still be wet from the previous day's rainfall. It is quite the experience, and we loved every minute of it. To celebrate our findings of he ever-so scrumptious fruit, we headed on over to Big Jud's. Now for all that have never been 'round them here parts, Big Jud's is a restaurant with burgers.

 Not just any burgers, but the BIG JUD burgers which are the largest burgers you will ever see.

 And to think that there is a double and triple!!!! Even splitting this, we couldn't eat it in one sitting. Crazy. Not only do they give you this huge burger, but you get a basket of fries to go with it. Now, you may think that these fries would be in a small basket, but....

I got my fats and oils in for the week in one day, now that's impressive. Needless to say, that was drenched in sarcasm.



P.S. Huckleberries are A LOT smaller than I imagined. They're tiny!

Summer Happenings

This summer has been filled with tons of fun.

 Huckleberry Picking Round One

We left to go pick huckleberries in July with our neighbors hoping to indulge into a new fun fruit, but much to our dismay they were not ripe yet! It was an hour and a half to get there, and we got nothing! We weren't going to give up so easily. We decided to take some pictures while up there to make our trip a little more worthwhile.

As you can see from this picture, there is beautiful scenery in Idaho! I cannot believe it! I am so used to flat! It's almost ridiculous!  I haven't decided if this gorgeous scenery is worth freezing my behind off in the winter though.

We took so many pictures, it felt like a photo shoot. I won't bore you with all, but just the highlights. We went on a "hike" while up there and found some cute spots. Here are our neighbors:

They are so cute, and as a result they made a very, very cute baby.

And then we have the "newlier weds" (It's been a year now, I can't believe it!)

The Vernal Life!

I have decided to update once again! It's a little backwards b/c blogger will post the last pic first! Who would've thunk? While we were in Vernal I went to my first, that I could remember, corn maze! Steven decided to run ahead and test my skills I suppose. I used my camera as a light (from the flash) and this is one of the pics I ended up taking. :) We found the secret was that you had to go over the stairs to get to the exit side. He should be a model or something, right? Just look at that smile!

Steven did a lot better than me with the flash in our eyes. It was freezing this night!

Now I posted earlier on the Honeymoon post that we had to go to my grandma's funeral. My sister and I afterward took pictures... lots of them! Isn't it funny how hard it is to have both people like the pic you are taking? =P

We went to Idaho Falls yesterday and this s what I found:

Target:

This one is not that exciting, but we found that the Pamolive dish soap was (I'm guessing) around 7 bucks I think. I used a $1 off coupon, and there was a booklet of coupons in there. :)

Next stop: Wal-Mart! Can you make a guess? (notice the two steaks as well!)

Ending result! The cash register lady was shocked. :) I would have normally just gotten the steak and maybe the cream soda for this price. We bought the soda so we can use them for upping our food storage with water--milk jugs are not good for storing water. The rest I had a coupon for. The Bar S hotdogs were $.88/ea. and I have a $1/2, so I got them about $.38/ea. (That coupon was from the internet) I got the coupon for dawn from a booklet I got in the mail. It has many other "high-priced" coupons in it, too! The Wheat Thins had a coupon on Target, that was actually a manufacture's coupon, so I could use it at Wal-Mart on their sale of $2. The one I'm most proud of is my score on the steaks/filets. There is a $3/1 bacon wrapped Chef's request coupon. Wal-Mart has a sale that never seems to end on them, so I got them for $.68! Do I hear Valentine's dinner? haha

I do have to say that Steven and I love this couponing business. :) He is very supportive of me doing it, too! Most likely because he likes to see the bills go down. :)
If anybody is looking for a good deal on a Valentine's gift for your hubby, I can share what I did! I would post it, but he might see it! :/

To add to my wonderful day, I found out I went down in my pant size by two-three sizes! :) Could my day have been any better?!

Getting into this blogging business!

1. Ok, so I don't think I have any exciting pictures to post really. I am still waiting...waiting...and waiting to get my wedding pictures back from the Utah side. Who knew it would take this many months for them to get my a CD I can post. I have one I'm allowed to view, but it is very much... copyright-ed? We are back up at school and are loving it! I enjoy it because I have something to do. Period. Steven loves it because he has "something" to do. Although, in Utah, he atleast had something to do. I had, well, nothing. Jobs are scarce and I was feeling the pain of...well, boredom. :) It is so much fun having family and friends here, too! Last year I only had Liz. I suppose once in a while I had Dave.

2.Steven is tutoring Chem 106 this semester.Steven is pushing himself a lot this semester. He is taking 4 classes; three of them being:

• Anatomy


• Organic Chemistry (2nd half)


• Physics

All of which have labs! His study buddy/friend decided not to take O-chem at the same time as Anatomy because of the work load of these labs. Smart? I think so. My husband has enough guts to face the world head-on! Smart? I think...not, but we'll see later this semester. I think he can do it; I just may be single for one more semester because he will be at the library. :) His other class is with me though, so yipee! It's family foundations, and it's quite interesting.

3. I am currently still looking for a job. I am ahead of my classes from the lack of a job, so there is the "silver lining." I sure hope it stays that way. If I keep making blogs this long it probably won't. I am taking family foundations (as mentioned above), Math 108 (down a class from last year--complicated story), Science Foundations, Money Management (which has managed to be cancelled 2/3 times--not complaining), Humanities, and Interior Design.

4. What else can I update you on? Nothing I can think of. Let me know though because I am new to this whole blogging business, and I know I could probably do whatever I wanted. I just want to know if I'm leaving out some standards.

My Fascinating Facts:

The Greeks disliked the idea of irrational numbers, yet they came up with a most crucial irrational number. They went about trying to find how to split a line into two pieces that is most pleasing to the eye. Well they came up with a spot-- it is called phi (pronounced fee or fie and the symbol is a cirlce with a line straight up and down in the middle). Today, we round it to 1.6 or 8/5. This is known as the golden ratio. It led to a "golden rectangle." I wonder if that sounds familiar to anybody? This golden rectangle was considered the most pleasing to the eye. Basically the shorter side is x. The longer side is x*1.6. Surprisingly enough, it is seen a lot!!!! Also, this guy--sorry I don't remember his name-- did a survey on most pleasing/displeasing rectangles. Without even knowing it, the public made a trend. The "golden rectangle" had the most votes for most pleasing and NO votes for displeasing. The closer the pleasing votes came to the golden rectangle the higher they were, and the closer it got with the displeasing votes, the smaller! Last bit about golden rectangles. If you make a square out of a "g.r." the other section becomes a new g.r.. If you keep dividing them and smoothly connect the squares--it makes a "golden sprial" which is found in nature.
