September FHE

Source

Now that I just had my baby, and have oh so much time (haha yeah right...), I have become more confident in my opinions and firm. I hate wasting time. I do try to enjoy at least one nursing session a day by loving and cooing and making eye contact a lot, but other than that I like to be reading, planning, organizing my pinterest boards, or double up by watching a TV show like sytycd. (Just so I don't feel horrible, I want you to know that I usually read my book out loud, talk about what I'm doing on pinterest, or discuss the things I'm planning for the family) On planning, I have been planning dates, menus, big spend items, and even FHE (Family Home Evening-ours is on Monday night). Something that has been on my mind lately is emergency preparedness. I have been married for nearly 3 years (Holy moly, really?!), and have always left it kind of up in the air. I had extra food, but could it actually be used in meals? I had no idea. I did have extra bathroom items stocked up thanks to my earlier run with couponing. Needless to say, this needs some desperate work in our family.

So, why not have a theme for FHE every month? September, I decided, was going to be our emergency preparedness month. Kids learn better this way anyway. Repeated lessons stick better.

Week 1-Research threats in your area.
Week 2-Develop a Family Plan
Week 3-Make a List of Things to Buy
Week 4-Store Trip to Buy Items on List

If you are LDS this is perfect because the Monday before General Conference or even during, you can switch out food and then eat the old stuff for snacks!

I found out later that September is National Emergency Prepardness Month. Perfect!  After playing on their website, these are some useful things I found:
Find what people are discussing about how to be prepared based on regions
Find events in your area
How to make a family plan

I'll be posting about the resources we actually use probably the day before or day after. Preferences? I could do it the day before and then you wouldn't have to plan what you'll be doing for FHE! ;)
